Transgender Clinic Cardiff Bay
Where to start?
The best way is to start with booking consultation and patch test.
There is no right or wrong way to start your hair removal during the transition but I suggest removing facial hair first.
To reduce growth we always start with laser.
Not every person will be suitable for laser (not suitable for blond, white hairs) but electrolysis is proven to be a more inclusive treatment.
There is no quick way or better way to deal with unwanted hair:
-diode* laser will take 6-8 treatments over one year, after which we will carry on with top-up treatments every so often or move on to finish it off with electrolysis
-electrolysis on the full face will take on average of 150 hours spread out over 2-4 years of regular treatments
For laser, you will need to clean shave as close as possible to the appointment date and the full face/ neck and other parts of the body can be treated the same day.
For electrolysis, I will require 3-4 days of growth on part of the face/neck.
The optimal electrolysis session time is 1-2 hours and that time can be used on facial hair as well as fingers and body hairs.
Please kindly notice. I'm unable to offer any pre-SRS electrolysis or laser treatments.
There will be more detailed information for every person during consultation.
Clinic is privately located at 54A Bute Street and offers 1-hour free parking on the street (subject to avaiability).
There is also train station on other side of the road- Cardiff Bay train station.
If you traveling by bus. Any bus which stops by Millenium Centre Cardiff Bay
*Diode lasers are the best to treat strong, terminal hair.
IPL machines are not lasers and are significantly less pawerfull.
What are my other options?
As well as removing unwanted hair applying makeup can be proven to be difficult to start with.
Services I offer for transgender women are:
Permanent eyebrows will give a more defined shape- without being overdone. It will also give you guidance on how to pencil eyebrows when you need more colour because of fresh tan or you coloured your hair darker.
Please notice sometimes eyebrows need to be treated with electrolysis first to achieve the desired shape.
Lip blushing is a semi-permanent tattoo that can enhance the colour and shape of your lips and give the impression of more fullness. This is done by depositing colour ink into your lips and along your lip line to improve the overall look. The colour is subtle to give natural-looking results.
Again this is not a lipstick effect just a healthy, fuller but still natural-looking effect.
I do not offer eyeliner* as the first treatment from "permanent makeup" options as this is a very personal preference and not everyone wishes to have eyeliner all the time. While having subtle colours on lips and perfectly shaped eyebrows is always good.
Permanent makeup is daily makeup, it is never meant to be staged or a heavy make-up look.
*If permanent eyeliner is something you wish to have please get in touch. We will meet up and discuss the best options.
I'm a member of BIAE (The British Institute and Association of Electrolysis - the BIAE - is the only Professional Body in the UK dedicated to Electrolysis and representing Professional electrolysis in the UK and overseas).
I also trained with Sterex to achieve the "Specialist Transgender" qualification to understand the condition of gender dysphoria*.
My clinic is registered with Health Inspectorate Wales regarding my laser treatments.
HIW inspect NHS services and regulates independent healthcare providers against a range of standards, policies, guidance and regulations to highlight areas requiring improvement.
*Gender dysphoria is a term that describes a sense of unease that a person may have because of a mismatch between their biological sex and their gender identity.
